I Can (a short by Ben Seim)

I Can

I had a recent realization that I'm still pondering.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

The application of this verse goes far beyond the natural into the supernatural (mind & spirit).

Fasting, holding our breath, resisting escapes to avoid (death scroll, alcohol, emotional eating). These are all natural and our capabilities in the natural realms are dictated by our mind (brain, thought patterns, limiting beliefs, etc.). White knuckling it may work for a bit but it's not sustainable. You don't become a Jedi overnight.

We can and should do better at things in the natural realm (our body/mind is a temple) but more importantly, let's level up to our true identity and have God's eternal perspective as we make decision big and small. Two benefits: 1) Not white knuckling in the natural realm (greater sustained capabilities). 2) Significant impact/power in the spiritual realm (eternity).

Having the power/ability and wielding it based on scripture (turning the other cheek) is power (humility) that often is not recognized by others on Earth but it benefits us personally on Earth as we fulfill our mission (no soldier ties himself up in civilian matters).

Why now? It's a new year and some of us are setting goals, establishing new habits/systems. Let's not aim at those, but let's be clear in our identity (or desired identity) and behave accordingly (I think I got this from James Clear, Atomic Habits).

Rather than "I will work out 3xs per week" start with "I am physically fit" or "I am an athlete". Then, let your actions confirm your identity. Every action/behavior we do votes for or against our desired identity. Are you acting like an athlete?

Rather than "I will read my Bible 5xs per week" start with "I love connecting with God."

(insert other examples here)

For further study: the same power that raised Christ Jesus from the dead dwells in you  --  more than we could ask/imagine (Eph 3:20)
